Proper nutrition is an essential part of the recovery process and most women suffer from malnourishment while in the throes of addiction. This program will help you navigate your perception, belief, thoughts and feelings around nutrition and body image as it pertains to self esteem, and your ability to change the way you think, act and feel.

Gardening

We use the therapeutic power of gardening to expand upon what we are learning, thinking, and feeling during the process of recovery. The peacefulness associated with gardening helps us learn to let go, practice acceptance, and reminds us to live in the present moment. Clients enjoy seeing the lifecycle of planting, nurturing, and harvesting the fruits and vegetables they have created. Our gardening program provides yet another opportunity to practice one of the single most important principles for mental wellness… connection.

Culinary Arts

By bringing back the family dinner hour, clients are able to connect, learn to socialize, practice teamwork, and foster a sense of pride and accomplishment. Using local ingredients and partnering with our community, we create delicious, seasonal meals every night with herbs and many vegetables that we grow and care for in our garden.

We sit down together in our lovely dining room or our outside garden for el fresco dining and enjoy delicious, homemade meals every evening. This process is designed to help clients understand nutrition, develop new healthy routines, and encourage relationship building and bonding.

Designed to provoke thoughtfulness, gratitude, connection, and daily intentions, this program helps us learn intention and purpose through the ritual of goal setting and meditation practice.

Regular exercise is important for both physical and mental health. We offer a variety of equipment in our onsite gym, which is open daily for clients who wish to workout independently.

Santa Barbara has much to offer in the way of cultural arts, music, outdoor recreation and local events. We take advantage of our beautiful location and year round climate by providing plenty of opportunities for fun in recovery.

During your stay with us, we will offer a variety of local activities designed to motivate you, encourage connection, and expose you to a new way of living.

Music Therapy

Music therapy has been used for years as an effective therapy for the treatment of substance abuse. Through a variety of different avenues, music can help heal, center, and balance a person's mental and physical wellbeing. The music therapy program at Casa Serena Treatment Program for Women aims to reduce stress, establish open communication and distract clients from certain discomforts of early recovery, as well as being a fun and uniting experience for all our clients!
