Here to Help
Why Women in Ballard, CA Seek Drug and Alcohol Rehab
Women in Ballard and throughout Santa Barbara County are facing growing challenges related to substance use and mental health. Though on the decline, county-level data continues to show high levels of opioid-related deaths, especially in the southern part of the county. At the same time, many women report rising levels of anxiety, depression, and trauma-related stress; factors that are closely linked to substance use over time.
For many women, substance use develops gradually. It may begin as a way to cope with chronic stress, unresolved trauma, caregiving demands, pregnancy-related changes, or long-standing emotional pain.
These realities lead many women to seek Ballard rehab options that feel safe, respectful, and rooted in understanding. Women are often looking for more than symptom relief; they want care that addresses the emotional and relational roots of substance use, while offering stability, dignity, and hope for long-term healing.

What Sets Us Apart
Why Women in Ballard Choose Casa Serena
When women in Ballard begin looking for rehab, many are searching for something specific: a place that feels safe, respectful, and built with women’s realities in mind. Casa Serena stands apart because our program was created by women, for women, and has remained rooted in that mission for more than six decades.
We are a nonprofit, women-only treatment center led by ethics, integrity, and care rather than profit. Our community model emphasizes shared responsibility, mutual support, and belonging. Women are not treated as problems to be fixed, but as whole people whose substance use makes sense in the context of their lives and experiences.
Casa Serena is also deeply trauma-informed. Every member of our staff is trained to create emotional safety and avoid re-traumatization. We focus on helping women understand the underlying experiences, including trauma, mental health challenges, and relational pain, that often contribute to substance use.
For many women in Ballard, choosing Casa Serena means choosing a program where they are truly seen, supported, and trusted to heal in their own time, surrounded by a community that believes in their capacity for lasting change.

Levels of Care Available Through Our Ballard Rehab Program
Recovery is not a single step, and effective Ballard rehab support needs to meet women where they are. At Casa Serena, we offer a full continuum of care so each woman can receive the level of support that best fits her needs, history, and goals. Treatment plans are individualized, flexible, and designed to support both immediate stability and long-term healing.
Sub-acute detox for women
Our sub-acute detox program provides a supportive, medically informed environment for women who need help safely withdrawing from substances. Care is grounded in comfort, dignity, and emotional safety, with close monitoring and compassionate support throughout the process.
Residential treatment
Residential treatment takes place in Casa Serena’s historic home in Santa Barbara, where women live and heal together in a structured, community-centered environment. Daily routines, shared responsibilities, and therapeutic programming help women rebuild stability, trust, and connection.
Outpatient treatment and continued support
As women progress in recovery, stepping down into outpatient care can provide the right balance of structure and independence. Casa Serena offers multiple outpatient options to meet women at different stages of healing, including partial hospitalization program (PHP), intensive outpatient program (IOP), and traditional outpatient services.
PHP provides a high level of therapeutic support during the day while allowing women to return to sober living or supportive housing in the evenings. IOP offers a more flexible schedule with regular therapy and group support, helping women continue their recovery while re-engaging with daily responsibilities. Traditional outpatient care provides ongoing counseling and support for women who need continued connection as they maintain long-term stability.
Together, these outpatient levels of care help women strengthen coping skills, maintain accountability, and stay connected to a supportive community as they continue building a life rooted in balance and self-trust.
Transitional housing
Transitional housing provides a supportive bridge between treatment and independent living. Women continue practicing life skills, accountability, and peer support while strengthening confidence and long-term recovery foundations.
Recovery and Treatment
Therapies and Healing Modalities That Support Whole-Person Recovery
At Casa Serena, recovery is about more than stopping substance use. Healing happens when women are given the tools, space, and support to understand themselves more fully, emotionally, physically, and relationally. Our therapeutic approach blends evidence-based practices with holistic modalities to support lasting change.
Evidence-based and trauma-responsive therapies
We offer a range of clinically grounded therapies that help women build insight, emotional regulation, and healthier coping patterns. These include cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavior therapy, Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing, Somatic Experiencing, and family therapy. Each modality is used thoughtfully, with attention to trauma history and individual needs.
Experiential and holistic approaches to healing
In addition to traditional therapy, Casa Serena integrates experiential practices that support nervous system regulation, self-expression, and reconnection to the body. Programs such as garden therapy, eco-therapy, equine-assisted therapy, Tai Chi, creative expression, and body-mind balance help women explore healing in ways that feel grounding, empowering, and accessible.
Together, these therapies support women in developing self-awareness, resilience, and a deeper sense of trust in themselves, which are essential foundations for long-term recovery.
Support
Supporting Women With Complex and Layered Needs
Many women seeking Ballard rehab support are not navigating substance use alone. Trauma, mental health concerns, family responsibilities, and life transitions often overlap in ways that make recovery feel especially complicated. At Casa Serena, we recognize that these layers matter and that meaningful healing requires care that addresses the whole person, not just one part of her story.
Addressing dual diagnosis
Substance use is often connected to experiences such as chronic stress, grief, anxiety, depression, or unresolved trauma. Rather than separating these experiences, Casa Serena takes an integrated approach to care. Treatment is designed to help women understand how emotional pain and survival patterns developed, while building safer, healthier ways to cope and relate to themselves and others.
Care for pregnant women and women with unique needs
Casa Serena also supports pregnant women and those navigating significant life transitions. Our team works thoughtfully and compassionately to help women access appropriate resources, stabilize their health, and feel supported during an especially vulnerable time. Care is never rushed or judgmental. Instead, we focus on safety, dignity, and helping each woman feel capable of moving forward with support.
