Casa Serena Treatment Programs for Women
Healing Is a Family Process
Our Approach
Why Family Matters in Recovery
“Addiction touches everyone in the family—and so does recovery. We believe that when families understand what is happening and have real tools to respond, outcomes improve for everyone.”
Loving someone who struggles with addiction or mental health is one of the most demanding things a person can experience. It reshapes relationships, erodes trust, and often leaves family members feeling isolated, confused, and exhausted. At Casa Serena, we take that seriously.
Our family programming is built on a simple conviction: treatment that does not include the family is incomplete. Every client at Casa Serena is part of a relational system, and sustainable recovery depends in part on how that system changes, grows, and heals alongside her.
We offer education, clinical support, and community for families throughout their loved one’s treatment—and beyond. Whether your family member is in our residential program, our PHP/IOP, or transitional living, there is a place for you here.
Year-Round Programming
Support at Every Stage
Family involvement at Casa Serena is not limited to a single event. We offer ongoing opportunities to learn, connect, and strengthen your own recovery alongside your loved one’s.
Multi-Family Groups
Facilitated by our clinical team, these groups bring families together to share experience, reduce isolation, and build skills in a supported environment.
Family Therapy Sessions
Individual family therapy sessions with our clinical team address communication, trauma, boundaries, and the relational dynamics that affect recovery.
Education & Resources
We provide families with evidence-based education on addiction as a chronic disease, the neuroscience of recovery, and tools for supporting a loved one without losing yourself.
Alumni Family Community
Our alumni network extends to families. Former clients and their families remain connected to Casa Serena, offering lived perspective and ongoing peer support to those earlier in the journey.
Fall Family Summit 2026
Casa Serena’s first-ever Fall Family Summit is an immersive three-day weekend designed for families, alumni, and clients to come together in Santa Barbara—learning, healing, and reconnecting in community with others who understand this experience from the inside.
What makes this summit distinctive is the presence of alumni and alumni family members who have navigated this road and are willing to share what they have learned. For families earlier in the journey, their perspective is invaluable.
- Education on addiction, neuroscience, and the family system
- Multi-family skills workshops and process groups
- Sound bowl experience and mindfulness practices
- Community BBQ lunch and unstructured connection time
- Closing lunch with remarks from our Board of Directors
- Family visitation with current residential and outpatient clients
Santa Barbara offers a warm, unhurried setting well worth extending your stay for—nestled between the Santa Ynez Mountains and the Pacific, with a walkable downtown and a pace that is restorative in its own right.
