Casa Serena employs a social model to achieve abstinence. The goal is to teach our clients how to abstain from addictive behavior and maintain a healthy life style, medications often play an essential role in this process. Our social model allows clients to take medications that improve one’s health such as antibiotics, antidepressants, medications used to control blood sugar and high blood pressure are examples. We also allow certain medications that help our clients cope with urges and cravings such as Camprel, Naltrexone and Antabuse. Medications that are considered addictive such as Methadone and Suboxone are viewed as inhibiting the healing process since these medications can trigger addictive behaviors. In certain cases, we allow our clients to taper off this medication during their first few days under our care. Your Admission’s Counselor will review your medication options with you during your assessment.
